The Smokr, the suspended dress

Recent research shows that the dress used with oval brooches has been a suspended dress; a dress shaped like a tube. It’s called Smokr in Iceland.

Where the seams were and how many there was is uncertain. Smokr have two small loops at the front and two long ones from the back of the shoulder over to the oval brooches in front.

These brooches sometimes contain more than one set of loops. Extra loops can be interpreted as the remains of a fore cloth/decorative piece, which would have hung down the front of the suspended dress. If, in addition.

I have chosen to make the dress longer in the back, as you can see them on the Oseberg Tapestry
